Karen Hughes, RN

Client Care Management

Karen Lacewell Hughes grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas, surrounded by family and strong values of care and compassion. Early in life, she helped her family care for her grandfather, a role that would shape her future but not initially direct it. Karen first pursued a career as an elementary school teacher, but soon felt a deeper calling and enrolled in Nursing School.

With over 28 years in nursing, Karen has built a diverse and impactful career. She began in Labor & Delivery before moving into Postpartum, the Recovery Room, Pediatrics, the Burn Unit, Med Surg, and finally into forensic psychiatric nursing. In 2004, when her mother suffered a stroke, Karen took on the role of primary caregiver for the next 17 years, balancing family and professional caregiving with unwavering dedication. Karen’s life has been touched by meaningful friendships, including her reconnection with Kim Clatworthy, who initially provided support when Karen’s mother needed care.

After losing her beloved daughter, Haven, in January 2023, Karen decided to shift her focus away from forensics to embrace her true passion: caring for the elderly. Joining Elder Independence Home Care, she now finds fulfillment in bringing comfort and companionship to elderly clients, describing the work as “heart-filling.”

A devoted mother, Karen cherishes the memories of road trips with Haven to see country artist Luke Bryan, even forming a friendship with his father, Tommy Bryan, which led to cherished meet-and-greet moments. In her free time, Karen loves sharing these memories, her warmth, and her unyielding positivity, bringing kindness and joy to everyone around her.
